A sick and horrifying reality in Greece - her sanction of animal hoarding! Responsibility for rampant neglect and cruelty issues plaguing this Aegean paradise is transferred onto the backs of those peculiar and sadly, dangerous Greek citizens and residents who are mentally unstable and who are incapable of discerning right from wrong and who manifest aberrant "control" issues. The Ministry of Agriculture turns a blind eye to the plight of the captive animals and the Ministry of Health turns a blind eye to the citizen in need of psychiatric intervention.

With so much obvious sight impairment, I dare say these Ministries are handicapped and warrant disability assistance, themselves. Unless, of course, their sight impairment or total blindness is "selective".

One country which has experienced some of the most dramatic changes in Europe in its provision of care for the mentally ill is Greece, thanks to the intervention of professionals from Europe and the United States. Twenty five years ago, the world was shocked by pictures of patients chained up and naked in a psychiatric hospital on the island of Leros. It was dubbed the 'island of the damned' and regarded as the worst mental institution in the whole of Europe. Patients there had been abandoned, out of sight, out of mind. Many were not even mentally ill. One woman was admitted because she had refused to marry the man chosen by her parents. The shock continues as Greece ignores her involuntarily cruel "hoarders"!
